Have you ever felt like God is taking too long?
In Genesis 25, Book of Genesis shows us a powerful truth through Isaac and Rebekah. Isaac waited 20 years for the promise of a child. Twenty years of prayer. Twenty years of silence. Yet he did not force the outcome—he trusted God.
When the answer finally came, it was clear: this was not human effort. This was the grace of God.
Sometimes God allows delay so we learn to depend on Him, not ourselves.
But this chapter also gives us a warning.
Esau traded his birthright for a single meal. In a moment of hunger, he chose what was immediate over what was eternal. He despised something sacred for something temporary.
How often do we do the same?
We trade peace for control. We trade purpose for comfort. We trade calling for quick relief.
Meanwhile, Jacob desired the blessing—but even his pursuit was imperfect. Still, God’s plan moved forward. Not because people were perfect, but because God is faithful.
What this means for you:
God’s delays are not denials. What God has promised, He will fulfill. But how you wait—and what you value—matters.
Reflection: What are you holding onto today? And what might you be trading away without realizing it?
Prayer: Lord, teach me to trust Your timing. When I feel impatient, remind me that Your delays have purpose. Help me to value what is eternal and not settle for what is temporary. Strengthen my faith to wait well. Amen.
